Violent crime remains fairly stagnant, while property crime "driven" by auto theft continues to climb. However, it is important to note that less than a third of those vehicles are still missing: out of the 180 auto thefts, SPD cleared/recovered 57 of those and another 69 were recovered by other law enforcement or the owner, which means 54 are unaccounted for.
SPD is working with the Department of Public Information to produce a PSA and additional educational materials to help drive the point home to citizens the importance of locking doors and remaining vigilant about safety measures.
Park BoardCongratulations to the team at the Springfield Botanical Gardens. The gardens have accreditation through the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program, recognizing the garden for achieving standards of professional practices for arboretums. It is among 159 gardens in the world — six in Missouri — accredited by ArbNet. The monthly report from Park Board is at your place.
Art At WorkOn consent agenda tonight, you approved the acceptance of a grant to support a unique program called Art at Work. The program is a partnership between two City departments – the Springfield Art Museum and the Department of Workforce Development. The in-school program is for 4th grade students to help them develop good work habits and soft skills through art instruction. The program is currently underway at a few Zone 1 schools and will be able to expand thanks to a nearly $15,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Thank you, Nick Nelson and Mary Ann Rojas for continuing to look for innovative ways to address our community’s most pressing issues.
