A California man was injured in a two-vehicle accident 12:27 a.m .today on I-44 at the 73.4 mile marker in Springfield.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2016 Volvo driven by Zhe Hong, 41, Rancho Cucamonga, California, drove into the median in an attempt to avoid a 2012 Freightliner driven by Julio I Rivera Hernandez that overturned across both westbound lanes in an earlier accident. The Hong vehicle struck the trailer of the Freightliner.
Hong was treated for minor injuries at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.
