Springfield motorcyclist dies after colliding with van

At approximately 6:19 p.m. on Sept. 15, Springfield police officers responded to the intersection of Sunshine and Enterprise for a crash involving a 2013 Ford Van and 2002 Honda VTX Motorcycle. The van was being operated by Mark Gonzales, 65, of Springfield, and was traveling eastbound on Sunshine and making a northbound turn onto Enterprise when the westbound motorcycle struck the van. The motorcycle operator, Tylor Woods, 27, of Springfield, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The Springfield Police Department Traffic Section responded to investigate the crash. There is no evidence of impairment being a factor in the crash at this time.

On the afternoon of Sept. 16, Woods succumbed to the injuries from the crash and was pronounced deceased at 1:14 p.m. The next of kin have been notified, and the investigation is ongoing.

This marks the sixteenth fatality in 16 crashes for 2016.
