Springfield Police investigate murder in Party City parking lot

On July 14, 2024, at 1:09 a.m., Springfield police officers responded after hearing gunshots in the area of the Party City parking lot, 2620 S. Campbell Ave.

Officers located Jesus Lopez Pacheco, 28, with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Pacheco died on scene. A second male, Josue Fernando Alvarado Valenzuela, 27, was located leaning inside a vehicle at the location with multiple non-life-threatening injuries. Valenzuela was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Both males are from Mexico. Pacheco’s family has been notified.






 

The Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit identified Josue Fernando Alvarado Valenzuela as the suspect in the case. Valenzuela was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail. Valenzuela was charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action with no bond.

The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office cautions that the charges contained in the felony complaint are merely allegations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

This is Springfield’s sixth homicide investigation in 2024, with the eighth victim for the year.
