Springfield man charged with murdering 79-year-old woman, tampering with evidence

On Aug. 28, 2021, at approximately 11:41 a.m., the Springfield Police Department responded to 219 W. Atlantic St. for a wellness check. When officers arrived, they located a female who had suffered multiple injuries. The female was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

On Aug. 29, 2021, the victim, identified as Judy Bishop, 79, from Springfield, MO, succumbed to her injuries. Notifications have been made to Mrs. Bishop’s family.








During their investigation, the Springfield Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit identified Brandon Wilson, a 34-year-old male, from Springfield, MO, as a suspect. On Aug. 30, 2021, the case was presented to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office and Brandon Wilson was charged with 2nd Degree Murder, Armed Criminal Action, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office cautions that the charges contained in the felony complaint are merely allegations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).

This incident marks the 16th homicide for 2021.
