Three teens killed, 10 other people injured when blowout causes church van to slam into tree near Bolivar

Three people were killed and 10 others injured when a church van blew a tire and slammed into a tree 10:24 a.m Friday on Highway 13 five miles north of Bolivar.

According to the Highway Patrol report, the 2001 GMC G3500 van, driven by Bradley J. Bailey, 34, Shawnee, Kansas, which belonged to the Faith Chapel Assembly of God in Overland Park, Kansas, experienced a blowout on the left rear tire, skidded to the right side of the roadway, overturned and struck a tree.

Polk County Coroner Melissa Britton pronounced Samara J. Bayse, 17, Stilwell, Kansas, Hannah L. Foy, 14, Louisburg, Kansas, and David T. Martin, 16, Olathe, Kansas, dead at the scene at 11:32 a.m.

Timothy J. Abbot, 40, Spring Hill, Kansas, and Jase R. Hadley, 15, Bonner Springs, Kansas, were treated for serious injuries at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.

Bailey and Samantha N. Miller, 14, Louisburg, were treated for moderate injuries at Citizens Memorial Hospital, Bolivar.

Joseph D. Castaldi, 17, Lenexa, Justin C. Castadli, 15, Lenexa, Cloe Clayton, 14, Louisburg, Quynn Holtom, 13, Raymore, and Michael S. Martin, 14, Olathe, were treated for minor injuries at Citizens Memorial.

The fatalities were the 75th, 76th and 77th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
