The Springfield Fire Department responded to the 2600 block of North Johnston Avenue on Wednesday, Aug. 8 for a reported structure fire. One female was found at the scene with extensive burns. She was transported to a local hospital, where she passed away today. This is Springfield's first fire fatality of 2018.
The fire is still under investigation and no further details are being released at this time.
