(From the Springfield Police Department)On April 4, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to a single-vehicle accident at Fort Avenue and Lindberg Street.
A gold 1999 Buick Le Sabre, driven by 84-year-old Robert Scherff, of Springfield, was southbound on Fort Avenue. As Scherff approached Lindberg Street, he ran off the roadway on the right side and hit a light pole. Scherff was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
On April 13, 2023, Scherff succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Scherff’s family have been notified.
The investigation is ongoing as to the circumstances involved in the crash.
This is Springfield’s 11th motor vehicle crash fatality in 2023.
