Springfield police were dispatched to the intersection of Cherry and Dysart at 2:38 A.M., on September 18, 2018, after a 911 caller reported that a male subject had been shot. When officers arrived, they found a male victim, Ryan A. Boulanger, lying in the street with an apparent gunshot wound. Boulanger was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The suspect was later identified as David L. Bryant, a 52-year-old male from Springfield. After shooting the victim, Bryant stole the vehicle they had been riding in and fled the scene prior to officers arriving.
At 2:52 A.M. on September 18, 2018, officers were dispatched to the Fairvue Studios at 1116 W. Norton where a 911 caller said a male subject at that location had been shot. When officers arrived, they found the victim outside the apartments with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim sustained a serious but non-life-threatening injury and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. During the investigation of this second shooting incident officers determined that David Bryant was the suspect in both incidents.
At 4:41 A.M. on September 18, 2018, Officers were dispatched to 1326 W. Tampa after a 911 caller stated David Bryant was that location. The caller said Bryant had a gun and was holding people against their will. Officers responded to the location and surrounded the home. While officers were outside and attempting to negotiate with Bryant, he exited the front of the home and fired a handgun at officers. One Springfield police officer returned fire. It was later determined that neither Bryant nor any police officer were injured during this exchange.
As officers attempted to negotiate with Bryant again, a female inside was able to escape out of a window of the home. Bryant eventually followed officers’ directions and exited the front of the home with his hands up. Bryant then lowered his hands and charged directly at officers in a threatening manner. Officers with the Springfield Police Department Special Response Team stopped Bryant’s threatening and aggressive action utilizing less lethal means. Bryant was arrested and later booked into the Greene County Jail.
On September 18, 2018, the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges of 2nd Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action against Bryant. He is being held without bond. These charges are merely allegations, and the suspect is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
