(From the Springfield Police Department)On Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, the Springfield Police Department began rolling out its new body-worn camera program. The process will continue throughout the week as more than 200 patrol officers are assigned and fitted with a camera.
“This program has been in the works for several months and we are happy to finally see it come to fruition,” said Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams.
“The police department and City leadership have worked diligently and consulted multiple community members to ensure that the body-worn camera program, and its subsequent policy, best serves our citizens. We hope this will help increase transparency and foster greater trust between law enforcement and the community.”
By the end of the week, Springfield police officers will be wearing Motorola WatchGuard V300 Police Body-Worn Cameras, which, according to SPD policy, will be in operation during all interactions with Springfield citizens.
