A Springfield man has died, following a residential fire Thursday morning, March 7.
Firefighters were called to a home at 2900 block of West Elm at roughly 7:30 a.m., where they located the man during search and rescue operations. The man was removed from the fire, but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
Next of kin has not been notified. No working smoke alarms were found in the residence.
The full report will not be completed for several months when lab results are completed. The Fire Department investigative report is ongoing.
This marks the second fire-related fatality in Springfield in 2019.
