At approximately 1:44 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, Springfield Police Officers responded to 4355 S. National, Kelly Greens Apartments, after a 911 caller stated a female subject was not breathing. Upon responding to the location, officers located the female subject inside the apartment. Officers performed CPR on the victim who was then transported by ambulance to the hospital. After arriving at the hospital, medical staff discovered that the victim had sustained serious internal injuries that were consistent with injuries sustained from an assault. The victim later died from these injuries.
The victim was identified as Valerie L. Williams, a 27-year-old female from Springfield. Next of kin notifications have been made for the victim.
Officers located and identified the suspect who was still at the scene. The suspect was identified as Derik C. Osborn, a 33-year-old male from Springfield. Osborn was arrested and has been booked into the Greene County Jail.

An Autopsy will be conducted by the Greene County Medical Examiner’s Office.
