Greene County Sheriff statistics show crime down 18 percent during third quarter

3rd Quarter Crime Stats:

Crimes Against Persons were down 13.33%

Crimes Against Property were down 18.52%

There was an 18.31% overall decrease in crime in the 3rd Quarter.

Springfield Police Department schedules Coffee with the Chief

Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams will be hosting "Coffee with the Chief" at 7-8:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 7th at Travellers House Coffee and Tea located at 2151 W Republic Rd.

The purpose of the meeting is to encourage an open discussion between the public and the Chief. 

Anyone interested in asking questions or learning more about the Springfield Police Department is encouraged to attend.

Two men shot to death, two others wounded in Springfield shooting spree

At 12:05 a.m. on November 1, 2018, Springfield Police were dispatched to 906 E. Locust after a 911 caller stated gunshots were heard at the residence.

When officers arrived, they found two males deceased inside the home with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers also found two other males with serious gunshot wounds at the location. Officers immediately began life-saving measures for the two wounded individuals and they were transported to the hospital by paramedics. Investigators are currently working the case as a homicide.

The first deceased victim was identified as Aaron J. Hampton, a 23 year-old-male from Springfield. The second deceased victim was identified as Steven R. Marler, a 38-year-old male from Fordland. 

Next-of-kin notifications have been made for the victims. The two wounded subjects are currently being treated in the hospital and are in stable but critical condition.

Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.

Springfield teen injured avoiding a deer

A Springfield teen was injured in a one-vehicle accident 8:50 p.m. Thursday on Highway B, three miles south of Northview.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2003 Suzuki Vitara driven by Erin A. Frazier, 18, Springfield, swerved to avoid a deer, ran off the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned.

Frazier was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.

Springfield Police investigating apparent murder-suicide at 1920 W. Elm

At 4:32 p.m. on October 31, 2018, Springfield police received a check the well-being call.

The caller wanted officers to check the well-being of a female inside 1920 W. Elm. When officers entered the home they discovered two deceased individuals inside. Both individuals appeared to have injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

The deceased individuals were identified as Torie E. Parrow, a 32-year-old female from Springfield, and Melvin L. Parrow, a 36-year-old male from Springfield. 

Next-of-kin notifications have been made for both subjects. At this time, investigators do not believe there is a suspect at large and feel there is no danger to the community.

Springfield Police Department finds 11 violations during Halloween sex offender compliance check

On Wednesday, October 31 (Halloween Night), Springfield Police Officers conducted checks of approximately 200 addresses of registered sex offenders for compliance with the state Halloween Sex Offender Statute.

Officers located 11 violations but did not make any arrests. All violations will be presented to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office. 

Any person required to register as a sexual offender under sections 589.400 to 589.425 shall be required on October thirty-first of each year to:

*Avoid all Halloween-related contact with children

*Remain inside his or her residence between the hours of 5 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. unless required to be elsewhere for just cause, including but not limited to employment or medical emergencies

*Post a sign at his or her residence stating, "No candy or treats at this residence"

*Leave all outside residential lighting off during the evening hours after 5 p.m.

Any person required to register as a sexual offender under sections 589.400 to 589.425 who violates the provisions of subsection 1 of this section shall be guilty of a class A misdemeanor.
