Reward offered for information leading to arrest of man wanted for drug, burglary charges

This week's featured fugitive is Cody R. Adams.

Adams has four felony Probation Violation warrants out of Greene County for Possession of a Controlled Substance and three separate counts of 2nd Degree Burglary. 

The warrants were issued on 08/13/2018. Adams is a 30-year-old white male, approximately 5’11”, 140 lbs, with blonde hair, and blue eyes.

Law enforcement is asking the public for assistance in locating Adams.

Highway Patrol makes two arrests during Greene County motor carrier safety operation

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a one-day Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program SAFETE operation in Greene County on August 31, 2018.

During the operation, troopers stopped 16 commercial vehicles and four passenger vehicles. Additionally, troopers conducted 15 commercial vehicle inspections, made two commercial vehicle arrests, and issued 20 warnings for various other offenses.

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”

West Plains couple injured in one-vehicle accident on 65

A West Plains couple was injured in a one-vehicle accident 1:38 p.m. today on U. S. 65 at the 24.6 mile marker in Christian County.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2008 Dodge Ram driven by Doy D. Young, 80, West Plains, ran off the roadway and overturned.

Young and a passenger, Myra S. Young, 78, West Plains, were treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.

Battlefield teen seriously injured after car strikes sign, goes airborne on 160

A Battlefield teen was injured in a one-vehicle accident 3:45 p.m. today on U. S. 160, one mile north of Nixa.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Zachary C. Arnold, 17, Battlefield, went off the right side of the roadway, struck a road sign, went airborne into a culvert.

Arnold was treated for serious injuries at Cox South Hospital, Joplin.

Ash Grove residents airlifted to Springfield Mercy after accident near Shell Knob

Two Ash Grove residents were injured in a one-vehicle accident 10:40 a.m. today on MO 39, five miles north of Shell Knob.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Charles E. Keeney, 58, Ash Grove, ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting both occupants

Keeney and his passenger, Judith E. Keeney, 57, Ash Grove, were airlifted to Mercy Hospital, Springfield, with serious injuries.

Lake Ozark residents suffer serious injuries in motorcycle accident near Branson

Two Lake Ozark residents were injured in a one-vehicle accident 11 a.m. today on MO 465, four miles north of Branson.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2015 Indian motorcycle driven by Dean E. Woodcock, 63, Lake Ozark, ran off the left side of the road and overturned.

Woodcock and a passenger, Deborah A. Woodcock, 63, Lake Ozark, were treated for serious injuries at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.

Hillcrest High School freshmen get to know each other at block party

On a sunny Friday Aug. 24, nearly 300 Hillcrest High School freshmen celebrated the beginning of their high school careers at a block party on the Hillcrest football field.

Popsicles were served, music was played and students were encouraged to participate in a number of activities, like bounce houses, football games, volleyball matches, a selfie station and more. And everywhere were teachers, engaging in the fun right along with students.

“The purpose of today’s event is for our freshman academy teachers to get a chance to talk to their students and meet them outside of the classroom,” said Jaci Hill, coordinator of site interventions at Hillcrest. “It gives our teachers a chance to show our students that they care about them as people, not just as students in their class.”

Jaci Hill and freshman academy teachers planned the event for two weeks, making a strategic effort to take students out of class and into a neutral, fun environment. Each of their planned activities had an opportunity for teachers to engage with students casually and get to know students personally in activities they chose.

“My hope is that every kid feels like that they are known on a very personal basis by all their teachers and the other students on their team,” said Michael Brinkmeyer, freshman seminar teacher and academy team leader for the Blue team. “Events like this are really time not only to build the school community, but also the freshman academy. I’m already seeing kids I know who have met in classes who are on my team and they’re already hanging out and building friendships.

We want school to feel like family, and the freshman academy is just a structure to support building those relationships.”

Alcohol suspected as cause of car hitting, killing pedestrian at Fort Avenue and Sunshine

On September 2 at 1:41 PM, Officers were dispatched to Fort Avenue and Sunshine Street for a serious injury crash involving a pedestrian.

 A black 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by William J. Shelton age 42 of Springfield, was eastbound on Sunshine when it attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Fort. The Pathfinder went wide and struck the Traffic Island on the northeast corner of the intersection.

 A pedestrian, James D Atkinson age 55 of Norman, Oklahoma, was standing on the Traffic Island, waiting to cross Sunshine. The Pathfinder struck Atkinson and pinned him against the traffic signal pole. Shelton was not injured in the accident. 

Atkinson was transported to the hospital for life-threatening injuries. He was listed in critical but stable condition. Next of kin has been notified. 

 The investigation is ongoing, and alcohol was a possible contributing circumstance.

Springfield woman critically injured in car-motorcycle accident

On September 1 at 11:46 pm, officers with the Springfield Police Department were dispatched to a serious injury crash at National Avenue and Walnut Street. 

 A white 2009 Hyundai Accent, driven by Shankar Joshi age 22 of Springfield, was southbound on National Avenue and made a left turn onto Walnut Street. A white 1996 Suzuki GSX-R750, driven by Gary W. Jenkins age 30 of Springfield, was northbound on National and collided with the Hyundai. Jenkins and his passenger, Crystal N. Johnson age 22 of Springfield, were ejected from the motorcycle. 

 Jenkins had moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Johnson suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. She was listed in critical condition. Next of kin has been notified. The investigation is on-going.
