On April 26, 2019, at 05:46 p.m., officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to the 3000 block of East Sunshine in response to a motor vehicle crash involving a bicycle and a passenger car.
A 2001 Lincoln LS was eastbound on Sunshine in the inside lane when a bicycle, pedaled by 61-year-old Brian Marshburn, traveled northbound into the path of the Lincoln. Marshburn and his bicycle were struck by the Lincoln and Marshburn received critical injuries. Marshburn was then transported to an area medical facility.
On May 2, 2019, at 8:26 p.m. Marshburn died from injuries related to the crash. Next of kin has been notified and the investigation is ongoing. The driver of the Lincoln was not injured and impairment is not suspected at this time.
This is the third fatality crash that has occurred in Springfield in 2019.
