Central High School film receives awards at festival circuit

(From Springfield Public Schools)

Central High School IB Film student produced film, The Yellow Wallpaper, just wrapped up its festival season with many prestigious awards.

Filmed by Central High School's film production studio, 1893 Productions, the film was shot on location around Springfield, as well as on an 18x20' set built in Central High School. The film featured actors from Central High School and Missouri State University.

"The Yellow Wallpaper was a passion project for nearly 40 students that spanned the course of two years from conceptualization to final edit," said Josh Cantrell, CHS broadcast journalism and film adviser.

"All of the students involved completed this film for the experience; no one received a grade. For many of the students, it has become a launch point, as some students used it for college entrance portfolios and others represented the film on a national level. Every student who invested themselves in the projects feels grateful for the accolades, but even if the film would have gained no notoriety, I firmly believe that it would not have diminished their opinion of the film or their overall love for filmmaking in the slightest."

The film received the following accolades:
1st Place Winner at the Fault Line Film Festival in Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Official Selection to the Golden Lion Film Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio
Film Winner at the Southern Media Showcase at Missouri Southern State University
Finalist in Drama at the Central Film Festival in Springfield, Missouri

Official Selection at the Breckenridge Film Festival in Breckenridge, Colorado
Official Selection at the All American High School Film Festival in New York, New York
