Police investigating shooting death of Springfield man

At approximately 2:38 a.m. on Sunday, August 5, Springfield Police Officers responded to 1119 N. Grant Avenue after a caller indicated a person at that location had been shot. 

When officers arrived, they found a male inside the residence with a serious gunshot wound. The man was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, but later died. Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Section began a homicide investigation and are currently processing the scene for evidence.

The deceased has been identified as Marcus Gilbert, a 32 year old male from Springfield. Next of kin notification has been made.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and following up on leads in this ongoing investigation. They ask for anyone with information about this homicide to contact the Springfield Police Department at (417) 864-1810 or make an anonymous call to CrimeStoppers at (417) 869-8477.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available for release at this time.
