Winter storm warning for Ozarks region

WINTER STORM AND VERY COLD TEMPERATURES...

.A STRONG WINTER STORM WILL MOVE OUT OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS AND
ACROSS THE MISSOURI OZARKS AND SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS FROM THIS
AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY. A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL BEGIN TO MOVE
THROUGH THE REGION SATURDAY AFTERNOON AS PRECIPITATION BEGINS TO
SPREAD NORTH FROM ARKANSAS. THE PRECIPITATION WILL INITIALLY BEGIN AS
LIGHT RAIN OR DRIZZLE AND TRANSITION QUICKLY TO SNOW LATE THIS
AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING.

PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE DURING THE
OVERNIGHT HOURS SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY MORNING. PORTIONS OF THE
EASTERN OZARKS SHOULD EXPECT 5 TO 8 INCHES OF SNOWFALL WITH
LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS. ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS AND THE
WESTERN MISSOURI OZARKS...2 TO 5 INCHES OF SNOWFALL ARE EXPECTED.
SNOW WILL TAPER OFF TO FLURRIES AND END FROM WEST TO EAST SUNDAY
AFTERNOON.

BEHIND THIS SYSTEM...AN ARCTIC AIR MASS WILL OVERSPREAD THE
REGION. LOWS ON BOTH SUNDAY AND MONDAY NIGHTS WILL RANGE FROM
ZERO TO NEAR TEN BELOW ZERO...WITH THE COLDEST READINGS EXPECTED
ACROSS CENTRAL MISSOURI. HIGHS ARE MONDAY WILL REMAIN IN THE
SINGLE DIGITS. STRONG NORTH WINDS WILL ACCOMPANY THE ARCTIC AIR
MASS AND WILL RESULT IN WIND CHILL VALUES OF 20 TO 30 BELOW ZERO
SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY...WITH WIND CHILL VALUES OF 10 TO 20
BELOW MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY.

BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL ALSO OCCUR AS THE WINDS INCREASE
SATURDAY EVENING INTO SUNDAY REDUCING VISIBILITIES BELOW ONE MILE
AT TIMES.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...PORTIONS OF THE EASTERN MISSOURI
  OZARKS GENERALLY ALONG AND EAST OF A GAINESVILLE TO LEBANON TO
  VIENNA MISSOURI LINE LATE THIS EVENING THROUGH MID DAY SUNDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW FALL AMOUNTS OF 6 TO 9 INCHES WITH
  LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS.

* WINDS AND VISIBILITY...NORTHERLY WINDS OF 15 TO 20 MPH WITH
  GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH WILL ALLOW FOR BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW
  ACROSS THE AREA . THE BLOWING SNOW WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES AT
  TIMES TO A MILE OF LESS.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE LATE THIS EVENING
  INTO SUNDAY ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 63 AND INTERSTATE 44...MAKING
  DRIVING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS OVERNIGHT TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY.

  DANGEROUSLY COLD CONDITIONS WILL SPREAD INTO THE REGION SUNDAY
  NIGHT INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK BEHIND THIS SYSTEM. WIND CHILL VALUES
  SUNDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY MORNING WILL FALL TO 10 TO 30 DEGREES
  BELOW ZERO AT TIMES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING.  SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF

CHAINS...BOOSTER CABLES...A FLASHLIGHT...SHOVEL...BLANKETS...
EXTRA CLOTHING AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD HELP YOU SURVIVE IN
