Springfield woman suffers serious injuries crashing into tree
A Springfield woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident 11 p.m. Friday on Gideon Cave Road, a half-mile south of Brown Springs.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2003 Toyota 4Runner driven by Tierra S. Allen, 18, Springfield, ran off the right side of the road, returned to the road, ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree.
Allen was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Springfield.

Springfield man killed crashing into tree

Luis Ocampo Venegas, 27, from Springfield, was driving a white 2021 Ram 1500 truck eastbound on Trafficway when he lost control, ran off the north side of the road and hit a tree on the east side.
Ocampo Venegas died at the scene. Ocampo Venegas’ family has been notified.
A passenger in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.
This was Springfield’s 24th fatal motor vehicle crash in 2023.
Mount Vernon man, baby injured in collision north of Republic
Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident 1:15 p.m. Thursday on Route N three miles north of Republic.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Mack driven by Edward R. Lee, 85 Republic, struck the rear of a 1016 Toyota Corolla driven by Isaac J. DeJong, 23, Mount Vernon.
DeJong and a passenger, a female baby, were treated for minor injuries at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.
Galena man suffers serious injuries in ATV crash near Reeds Spring
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2009 Arctic Cat ATV driven by Nathan D. Clark, 24, Galena, went off the right side of the roadway, became entangled in vines and Clark was ejected.
Clark was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Springfield.
Urbana pedestrian injured by hit-and-run driver on I-44 near Mount Vernon
A black Dodge pickup driven by an unknown driver, struck and injured an Urbana woman 5:48 p.m. Thursday on I-44 three miles east of Mount Vernon.
According to the Highway Patrol report, the pickup hit the right arm of a pedestrian, Crystal S. Melton, 33, Urbana. The driver left the scene before the Highway Patrol trooper arrived.
Melton was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Springfield.
