Aurora woman seriously injured in head-on collision on 60

An Aurora woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision 3:50 a.m. today on U. S. 60, one mile east of Monett.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2002 Cadillac Deville driven by Codey E. Bonham, 27, Billings, made a left turn into the right turn lane of the westbound lanes of U. S. 60 and struck a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Margaret A. White, 45, Billings, head on.

White was treated for serious injuries at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.

Springfield, Fair Grove residents injured as ATV goes airborne

A Springfield man and a Fair Grove man were injured in a one-vehicle accident 4 p.m. today on private property approximately one mile north of Bolivar and one mile east of MO 13.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2017 Polaris RZR driven by Blake J. Sawyer, 23, Springfield, went airborne and overturned.

Sawyer and a passenger, Darren E. Pool, 23, Fair Grove, were treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.

Greene County deputies recover hundreds of marijuana plants in area near Ash Grove

The Greene County Sheriff's Office has recovered between five to eight hundred marijuana plants from a location in northern Greene County between Monday and Wednesday.

The investigation started when a citizen reported suspicious activity in the 9000 block of North State Highway V, North of Ash Grove. When deputies began investigating the activity, it lead them to a nearby property where they recovered the large amount of plants in a grow operation.

At this time, two subjects have been taken into custody and two more are wanted for questioning. Charges have not been filed at this time against the two in custody.

The value at this time is an estimated minimum of $500,000.00. The Drug Enforcement Administration is now working alongside with the Sheriff's Office in the investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation and more will be released as it becomes available.

Reed Academy teacher receives Golden Apple

Reed Academy teacher Beth Marlow was awarded the Golden Apple from FOX 5 for her efforts as an outstanding science teacher.

"It's a little overwhelming," she said. "I love what I do, so I feel good about the recognition. I appreciate the recognition very much. I just feel like since I like what I do, I don't need an award."

Marlow has taught science at Reed Academy for 20 years and was surprised on Tuesday, Oct. 16 During the award presentation, she was surrounded by the sixth-grade teaching staff at Reed Academy, who applauded her outstanding contributions and work at Reed Academy.

Marlow received $250 furnished by BluCurrent Credit Union and will be profiled on Fox 5. She was presented the award by members of the FOX 5 news team and a representative from BluCurrent.

Fall carnival, haunted house planned at Kickapoo High School

Kickapoo High School invites the community to the 17th annual Fall Carnival.

In addition to a haunted house, there will be activities and games for all ages. The entrance fee is a minimum of two nonperishable food items per person. The food items collected will be donated to the Ozarks Food Harvest. Last year, more than 3,000 canned goods were donated.

The carnival is held in the high school’s gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Crowder College in Cassville holding postcard art show

Cassville– The Art Appreciation classes at Crowder College in Cassville are hosting a postcard art show with the reveal Thursday, November 8, 1-3pm.

“The idea is to have as many people send a postcard with their creative response to the theme: VISIONS,” stated Leigh Wallace, Art Appreciation Instructor.

Springfield second grade students, families to learn about city government

Second-grade students and their families will tour the City's Government Plaza this evening while they treasure-hunt for knowledge of municipal government at the 29th annual "Treasures of the City" event, hosted by the City of Springfield and Springfield Public Schools.

The event will take place 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct.18 at the Busch Municipal Building, 840 Boonville Ave.

Designed to complement the students' social studies curriculum, Treasures of the City brings concepts discussed in the classroom to life as students interact with elected officials and government employees.
