Greene County Sheriff seeking information on Monday shooting

Early Monday morning, July 17, 2017, Greene County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a home in the 3700 block of West Roxbury Street in southwest Greene County where they located a 35-year old male with life-threatening gunshot wounds. During the course of the investigation, a male and female who had been detained for questioning were arrested for unrelated charges.

Springfield man charged with murdering girlfriend
On Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Greene County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a home in the 5200 block of East Calberts Lane in eastern Greene County where they located a deceased female with a visible gunshot wound.
The female was later identified as 54-year old Jennifer C. McDaris. Information provided by McDaris' boyfriend, 70-year old Ellman Long, led GCSO Deputies to the home.
The Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged ELLMAN S. LONG with:
- 1- Felony count of 2nd Degree Murder
- 1- Felony count of Armed Criminal Action
Kansas woman injured in explosion on Table Rock Lake
A Kansas woman was injured in an explosion 5:20 p.m. Saturday in front of Campbell Point Marina in front of the no wake buoys on Table Rock Lake.
According to the Highway Patrol report, an explosion on a 1996 Bayliner driven by Joshua S. Bohannan, 36, Rosehill, Kansas, occurred after the engine backfired due to a leak on the fuel tank and gas cans accumulated in a compartment.
A passenger, Katie A. Little, 29, Douglas, Kansas, was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.

The Springfield school board at its July 18 meeting declared the Doling and Pepperdine buildings as surplus property, a key step in listing the properties for sale.
Doling and Pepperdine have both been vacant and neither has served as a school site for many years. Soon potential buyers will be able to submit a proposal to express their interest in purchasing the buildings.
A similar process was used when SPS sold the Bailey building in 2016.

Springfield students place at national FBLA Conference

Central, Glendale and Kickapoo students (shown in photo) competed at the National Leadership Conference for Future Business Leaders of America.
Central's Katie Lu placed first in the nation in Introduction to Financial Math. Kickapoo's Noelle Fursa placed sixth in Accounting I. In addition, Kickapoo's Brendan Goodman and Dayne Harman went to finals in Publications Design, Joe Scheihing and Jamie Sampson received 100 percent certification scores on the Microsoft Word certification exam and Nathan Griesmer received a 94 percent certification score in Microsoft Excel.
