(From Springfield Public Schools)

Springfield Public Schools announced today that Dr. Mike Dawson, chief learning officer for the district, will depart SPS on July 1 to become executive director of instruction for Branson Public Schools. By joining the team in Branson in a newly created role, Dr. Dawson will return to the district where he served as a principal for nine years.

"Mike has done an exceptional job serving the 25,000 students of Springfield Public Schools and he will be greatly missed," said Dr. John Jungmann, superintendent of SPS. "I know he will achieve success on behalf of the students of Branson Public Schools in his new leadership role. On behalf of the Board of Education and our 4,000 staff, I wish him the very best as he prepares for this new opportunity."

Dr. Dawson has served Springfield Public Schools in the role of chief learning officer for four years. Prior to joining SPS, his leadership experience included service as a district-level administrator for the Monett R-1 School District.

"Serving Springfield has been a great privilege and I'm proud of our work to deliver the strategic plan by expanding learning supports, focusing on equity issues, and most recently providing mental health services to students," said Dr. Dawson. "I've worked with amazing, dedicated professionals who care deeply about students and Springfield Public Schools. I'm honored to call these teachers, leaders and support staff my friends."
